Eat Locally Year Round
Lexington, MA’s Cary Library invited Leslie Wilcott-Henrie from the Lexington Farmers’ Market and Allison Carroll Duffy, food preservation expert, for a two-part presentation to learn more about the ways to eat locally. Leslie discusses what it means to eat seasonally and the benefits and “how to’s” of eating locally year round. She shares strategies on how to source local food and support farmers throughout the year, along with recommendations on cookbooks, websites and other creative ways to eat local. Allison discusses several different methods of preserving and provide some level of “how-to” detail on each one. She explains the methods that can easily be done at home without a lot of extra training or equipment, so that attendees can start preserving right away. Allison also gives an overview of preservation methods that require specialized equipment or additional training and shares some info on how to get started.
