Opening Day is Almost Here!

Tuesday, May 28

2 – 6:30 p.m.

Get excited for the 20th season of the Lexington Farmers’ Market! We have loads of your favorite vendors returning with the freshest local food, from fruits and vegetables to beef and chicken, pork and lamb, and seafood too. We’ll have delicious baked goods, prepared foods and ready to eat fare, all locally grown and produced!

The Opening Day schedule, farmers, vendors, community group, artisans and musicians will be in a newsletter this weekend, but in the meantime, we wanted to let you know about the ten new farmers and vendors joining the LFM in 2024! As we search far and wide to bring new flavors and specialty food businesses to the market, we are pleased to introduce you to five of our newest vendors: My County Mushrooms, Captain Marden’s Seafood, Ovenbird Cafe, Triple Allium Flower Farm and Petsi Pies. Keep an eye out later this week for more news about additional new vendors as we get ready to open our packed and festive market season!

My County Mushrooms

Based in Gardner, MA, My County Mushrooms is a small family business that specializes in growing and selling mushrooms. The delicious varieties of mushrooms available weekly include oyster, shiitake, maitake, lion’s mane, white champion, portobello and baby portobello. Get ready for delicious fungi at the LFM!

Captain Marden’s Seafood

Capt. Marden’s Seafood was a hit at the Small Yet Mighty Winter Market this past season, and we are delighted they will be joining us this summer. A fourth-generation family owned seafood company, Captain Marden’s will be featuring a broad selection of prepared foods including soups, chowders, and grab and go dinners, along with shellfish, locally sourced seafood and more!

Ovenbird Cafe

Ovenbird Cafe is a bakeshop and cafe in Belmont featuring seasonal scratch-made baked goods, cafe beverages, breakfast and lunch counter service, as well as prepared foods customers can take home to enjoy. At the LFM, Ovenbird will bring seasonal pies and hand pies, tea cakes, biscuits, cookies, prepared sandwiches and salads, coffee and iced beverages made in house. We love visiting their cafe and can’t wait for their delicious offerings at the weekly market!

Triple Allium Flower Farm

Triple Allium Flower Farm is a micro backyard farm growing flowers in Burlington and Needham. Using sustainable farming methods, they offer a variety of flowers to the local community while embracing organic growing practices. Triple Allium focuses on cultivating exquisite blooms which are unique treasures not often found in large scale stores.

Petsi Pies

Petsi Pies (pronounced “peet-see”) is an independent, community-minded bakery serving up award-winning, scratch made pies and pastries in Somerville, Massachusetts since 2003. They offer a regular selection of sweet pies year-round in a variety of sizes, including Classic Apple, Blueberry, Cherry Crumb, and the famous Chocolate Bourbon Pecan and Mississippi Mud Pies.

Market Reminders

Before you arrive on opening day, please make sure to read through these important reminders

  • NO DOGS OR PETS ALLOWED: We love animals but no dogs or pets are allowed in the market space per Board of Health regulations. Service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.

  • The LFM is open rain or shine; check the LFM’s Facebook page (“The Lexington Farmers Market”) for the most up-to-date information in case of inclement weather

  • Preorders are welcome by farmers and vendors; visit the LFM’s website to learn about preorders and deadlines.
Yard Sign Time!

One of the best ways to spread the news about the LFM is to have a yard sign showing your support for local food! If you’ve had a yard sign before, go ahead and place them in your beautiful front yard.

If you don’t have a yard sign and would like one, let us know by sending us an email here.

Volunteer Opportunities with the LFM

We know there are folks out there looking for ways to get involved, and volunteering with the LFM is a great way to be part of the Lexington community!

  • The LFM welcomes volunteer assistance with market operations that take place outside of the market hours. This includes working on issues related to food equity and food insecurity, sustainability, outreach to local organizations and more. We would love to have you bring your knowledge and passion about local food and food equity to the LFM.

  • LHS students love to help at the market after school and over the summer, helping to greet customers, assist with SNAP transactions, conduct surveys, and support set-up and break-down of the market. This is a great community service opportunity for students and a hands on way to learn about local food!

Come make a difference in your community! For more information, visit the LFM Volunteers page on our website or email [email protected].

This Sesame Roasted Asparagus with Whipped Feta is the perfect spring (or summer) side dish that can easily double as an appetizer too. Olive oil roasted asparagus, tossed with sesame seeds, garlic, and lemon zest, served over creamy, salty whipped feta cheese.
